THE COMPANY

Adelaide Ship Construction International Pty. Ltd. was founded in 1980 by Mr. Joe Glamocak to fabricate steel structures, and to build and modify vessels for the Australian fishing fleet. With the successful completion of some 33 commercial vessel projects during the 1980's, the company looked to diversify and expand market scope. Early in 1992, Adelaide Ship Construction International was formalised for the purpose of building vessels for the international market.

Ship building at Pt. Adelaide

MOST RECENTLY

ASCI now specialise in the construction, modification, and repair of steel and aluminium vessels up to 1200 tonnes. With the modification or construction of some 50 vessels to date behind us, 1995 saw the first of a series of New Generation Prawn Trawlers emerge from the yard. Constructed of steel and aluminium, they are characterised by design and construction features which provide increased speed, fuel efficiency, and steadiness at sea.

As well as new construction, in 1997, ASCI completed major modifications to Stern Trawlers, as well as a Tuna Purse Seiner for export to Europe, and various commercial and fishing vessels for the Australian market.

CAPABILITIES PROFILE

Adelaide Ship Construction International Pty. Ltd. ( ASCI ), is the largest Ship Yard of its kind in the State of South Australia. Favourably positioned on the north arm of the Port Adelaide River, ASCI offers a comprehensive service from design, to corrosion control and painting, and has the advantage of several large under-cover building areas, as well as four slipways. The Port of Adelaide in South Australia is recognised to be one of the most productive and efficient city ports in the world, and ASCI is located within close proximity to all port services and facilities.

To date, vessels constructed or modified at the ASCI shipyard have ranged from twenty metre fishing vessels through to 73 metre cruise vessels of steel and aluminium composite. Also included in ASCI's portfolio are passenger craft, ferries and tugs. The fifty six metre Tuna Purse Seiner 'ZORA', constructed by ASCI in 1989, remains the largest fishing vessel built in Australia.

THE PERFECT LOCATION

Boasting very close proximity to the Australian Submarine Corporation site, the site of the soon to be commenced Australian Warfare Destroyer construction site, Adelaide Ship Construction International are ideally situated to take advantage of their ability to transport large fabricated sections, which are too big to be moved by road transport by barge right to the door of the AWD project on the very calm and protected waters of the Port River.

With a planned expansion of a further 5 hectares to provide construction facilities solely for aluminium pleasure craft to the west of the existing administration and storage area, this will represent a 500% increase over our current work area, allowing for the more efficient use of resources, and providing new facilities for the growing pleasure craft sector.
