The ‘Giru’ is a Class A twin right angle drive tug built by Adelaide Ship Constructions for Marine Plant Holdings of Sydney.
The ‘Giru’ is believed to be the most sophisticated fire fighting tug of this type built in Australia, and is the first of three 29 metre tugs ordered from Adelaide Ship Constructions International.
Construction time….. just 11 months !
The clean bridge layout includes radio microphone stalks, and a master’s chair which may be slid back out of the way.
Utilising two Ulstein right-angle drives with nozzle-enclosed propellors achieving a free-running speed of 12 knots, and 43 tonnes of bollard pull.
With a remote control monitor capable of delivering 10,000 litres of water or 60,000 litres of foam at 90 metres per minute, and a secondary manual monitor, the ‘Giru’ is destined for the North Queensland Towing Service.
